3 Most Important Questions To Ask Before Hiring A Landscape Designer

Have you recently purchased a home or are you thinking of purchasing a home? Are you hesitant to actually make the purchase due to the exterior of the home looking less than ideal? When looking at homes to purchase, one of the biggest things that may turn people away is how the exterior of the house looks to other people.

While this factor is important, what you may not realize is that it can be changed around about as easily as decorating the interior of your home. If you don't have much of a green thumb, you can always hire someone else to handle this on your behalf. But instead of hiring the first landscape professional that you find, it's a good idea to ask a few questions first. Some of the most important questions to ask include the following.

1. Are you fully insured? A landscape designer doesn't need more than a basic business license in order to promote his or her services in a city. This can make it difficult to seek compensation in the event that, for instance, your water line is accidentally damaged or one of your windows is broken by the landscaper or one of his or her employees. When the company is insured, you can file a claim with that insurance company instead of having to wait for payment from the landscaper themselves.

2. What services do you offer? Not every landscaper is a landscaper designer and vice versa. Some companies will only write up a plan for your new outdoor look while others will only implement a plan you already have. Some companies do both. You should always confirm exactly what services will be provided before you agree to hire anyone. Personal preference will dictate whether you'll hire an all-in-one company or you hire separate companies to handle each aspect of your exterior redesign.

3. How much will this cost? When redoing your exterior, you should always have a budget in mind. It will, obviously, cost money to hire a landscaper but the renovations will also cost money. Some plants can be extremely expensive, especially if you are purchasing mature versions rather than plants that will grow into the space. One of the first things that you should discuss with your landscape designer should be your total budget. This way they can do what they can to ensure that their plans and your budget conform to each other as closely as possible.
